First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has extended financial assistance to 1,000 women across all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in Lagos.
Each beneficiary received ₦50,000 as part of the RHI’s Economic Empowerment Programme, which is designed to promote economic growth and improve the livelihoods of petty traders.
At the Presentation of Recapitalization Grants for Lagos Petty Traders, held at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja, on Friday, the First Lady of Nigeria was represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State and State Coordinator for RHI.
She emphasized the importance of this initiative, which aims to support 1,000 pre-selected women traders in Lagos by providing them with the capital needed to grow and stabilize their businesses.
The First Lady acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), particularly petty traders, and commended their resilience in overcoming these hurdles to provide for their families.
She highlighted that the grants would enable these women to overcome business challenges, expand their operations, create jobs, and make a significant impact on the state’s economy.
“Economic empowerment remains a central focus of the Renewed Hope Initiative. Through this initiative, we have consistently delivered on our promise to uplift women and youth across the six geopolitical zones, supporting the economic reforms championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

“We recognize that empowering women economically is not only a moral imperative but a strategic one. When women succeed, their families succeed, and ultimately, our communities and nation prosper,” she stated.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu also praised the resilience of the 1,000 women beneficiaries from various Local Government Areas across Lagos and encouraged them to fully utilize the grant to grow their businesses.
She urged them to work together in building a nation where women can thrive and contribute significantly to national prosperity.
She also lauded Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her unwavering dedication to enhancing the lives of families across Nigeria through the Renewed Hope Initiative, which encompasses vital sectors such as education, health, economic empowerment, social investment, and agriculture.
Earlier, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative, stating that it creates a favorable environment for business growth and innovation, which will ultimately transform communities and the nation as a whole.
He also noted the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting SMEs, aiming to improve living standards and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
The event was attended by several key dignitaries, including Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (representing the Honourable Commissioner); Mr. Semiu Kadiri, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Chief of Staff; Mrs. Elizabeth Shyllon, Director of Women Affairs (WAPA); and selected beneficiaries from various local governments across Lagos State.
