Olympics Nigerians Long Jump Final
Nigeria is set to contend for medals in the long jump event at the Olympic Games with three athletes.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigeria is poised to secure a medal in the long jump at the ongoing Olympic Games, as three Nigerian athletes—Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Ochonogor—are competing in the event’s final for the first time in history.
All three qualified for the final in Paris, where they will face nine other competitors for medals today.
Olympics Nigerians Long Jump Final
Brume, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, advanced to her third consecutive Olympic long jump final with a final jump of 6.76m, surpassing the 6.75m qualification mark. Initially, she was at risk of elimination after jumps of 6.44m and 6.40m.
Usoro secured her final spot with a second attempt jump of 6.68m after a foul on her first attempt, while Ochonogor also advanced with a leap of 6.65m in the second round, following an initial jump of 6.27m.
They will compete against reigning Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo of Germany, who qualified with a 6.86m jump after two fouls, and Italian athlete Larissa Lapichino, who jumped 6.87m.
The top qualifier, Tara Davis-Woodhall from the USA, led with a 6.90m jump.
