Opinion: Jennifer Lopez, Omawumi, and Kamala Harris: What they All Have in Common

Omawumi was the first runner-up in the 2007 West African idols reality TV show and has since rose to prominence in her music career with several nominations and awards to her credit. She ventured into movie production teaming up with close friend and music icon, Waje, to produce a film and of repute is her humanitarian works on women empowerment.

Jennifer Lopez has been one of the forces dominating the music and movie industry for well over twenty years and it seems she isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Apart from the fact that she is a musical icon, she has dabbled into fashion and cosmetics and is gaining ascendancies with every business venture she goes into.

Kamala Harris, the current Vice-President of the United States of America, a first of many elective, political, and contested offices. She was the first female county attorney of San Francisco, the first female African-American and Indian-Origin district attorney of San Francisco, the first South Asian American and second African American to serve in the US senate and the first female to become the Vice-President of the USA.

All these women share several things in common: first amongst the list is that all of them took the chance to run in the paths of their dreams irrespective of background, educational qualification and race. They all faced their fears and dared the impossible to achieve what most women only dream of and a few never consider. They have all embraced the concept of progressive change in their careers as they seem to improve and succeed with the changing times and seasons which has made them all, still top runners in their various fields of endeavor.

Females, everywhere in the world have credible examples to learn from to aim for the top and reach for prominence.  Greatness has such pathway and this has been demonstrated by those who have and are still walking its trail.
