Eko Hot Blog reports that in a frustrating turn of events, Manchester United’s hopes of securing all three points were dashed as they conceded a late equalizer against Brentford, settling for a 1-1 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.
Despite taking the lead through Mason Mount’s 96th-minute strike, the Red Devils were unable to hold on to their advantage, with Kristoffer Ajer finding the back of the net in the 99th minute to rescue a point for the hosts.
The result left Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana disappointed, as he lamented the team’s failure to secure victory. “I feel sad because we are Manchester United, so it doesn’t matter who you play. Everywhere we go, we have to win,” Onana told the club’s official website.
Onana, who played a crucial role in keeping United in the game throughout the 90 minutes, expressed his frustration at letting the lead slip. “We gave away this game in the end. We did a fantastic job defending – it was not our best game but the most important thing was to win. So, yeah, it’s difficult,” he added.
Head coach Erik ten Hag acknowledged the mistakes made by his side, admitting that they “should act differently in that occasion where we conceded the equalizer, it was absolutely unnecessary.”
However, the Dutchman also questioned his team’s desire, stating, “I have to compliment the team that they hung in the game and kept fighting, although I thought Brentford wanted it more during the whole course of the game.”
The 1-1 draw leaves Manchester United in sixth place on the Premier League table, with 48 points from 29 games, trailing fourth-placed Aston Villa by 11 points.
As the Red Devils continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification, the dropped points against Brentford serve as a reminder of the need for consistent focus and determination throughout the remaining fixtures of the season.
