Ondo Assembly Supports Workers’ Agitation, Promises To Reject Bill Seeking Removal Of Wage From Exclusive List

• The Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun who received a protest letter from the labour leaders to kick against the bill being sponsored by a federal lawmaker at the National Assembly said the bill if allowed to scale through will further impoverish workers in the country.
• Whilegiving his assurance that lawmakers in the state would ensure that minimum wage is not put in the concurrent list, Oleyelogun, maintained that is not in the interest of Nigerian workers.

Ondo State House of Assembly has pledged that it would reject the proposed bill seeking the removal of minimum wage from the exclusive legislative list.

The House stated this on Wednesday while reaveling its stance for the members of organised labour union on the bill.

The Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun who received a protest letter from the labour leaders to kick against the bill being sponsored by a federal lawmaker at the National Assembly said the bill if allowed to scale through will further impoverish workers in the country.

While giving his assurance that lawmakers in the state would ensure that minimum wage is not put in the concurrent list, Oleyelogun, maintained that is not in the interest of Nigerian workers.

On his part, the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Helen Odofin said moving minimum wage to the concurrent list would lead to the slavery of Nigerian workers especially state and local government workers.

The labour leaders also pleaded with the state lawmakers to reject the bill whenever it is transmitted to the state.
