Eze Chukwemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has called on the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the just concluded election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, to join the ruling party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday declared the incumbent Governor and candidate of the APC, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu winner of the governorship election.
Eze, an erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), told Jegede, who he described as his very close friend right from their days in Adamawa State “to not only join APC but work very closely with the Governor for a better and greater Ondo State as the future of the State lays in the hands of patriotic and educated leaders like him.”
In a statement he signed and made available to reporters on Monday, Eze said the election was relatively peaceful, “depicting an appreciable degree of a global standard and demonstrated that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is well equipped to improve on the democratic credentials of our nation.”
“With this development, APC has proved once again that with unity future victories of the party in subsequent elections are assured,” he said.
He also applauded INEC officials and security agents for sticking to the ethics of fairness in the discharge of their electoral duties.
According to INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, Akeredolu polled a total of 292,830 votes as against Jegede’s 195,791 votes.
