Ondo Guber Poll: Again, Akeredolu Deputy, Ajayi Dumps PDP, Declares For ZLP
As the race for the Ondo gubernatorial election hots up, the political gladiators and actors have begun to to set the wheel in motion to ensure their victory at the polls, with the horsetrading, alliance forging and severing of long-standing relationships as allies become bitter foes, the election promises to be an intriguing one.
The shenanigans and theatrics that typify the gubernatorial race took a new and somewhat bizarre turn on Friday after the beleaguered Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, for the second time in two months switch political party in order to actualise his aspiration of contesting in the October 10 election.
Ajayi on Friday officially made known his intentions to run for governorship under the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.
The development was coming about two months after he dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
But having lost to Jegede Eyitayo at the PDP Primary three weeks ago, Ajayi decided to look elsewhere, a place where his ambition of becoming a governor can be realised.

His the emergence of Ajayi as the flag bearer of the ZLP has changed the dynamic of the governorship race from two horse race between PDP and APC to three horse race.
With his emergence, a third force has emerged as it is believed that ZLP has a strong footing in ondo and will definitely give both the APC and PDP a run for their money at the poll.
Welcoming the Deputy Governor into the party, the ZLP Chairman in the state, Hon. Joseph Akinlaja said “Our Party’s ideology is rooted in the social-democratic ethos that is fighting for the greatest good for the greatest number of the citizenry, fighting against inequality in the society, oppression of the underprivileged and poverty. Also a fight against man’s inhumanity to man in all its ramification.”
Meanwhile, the National Leader of the party, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko who is also the immediate past governor of the state was absent at the venue of the declaration.
On his part, Ajayi said that his moving around across parties was necessitated by his love for the people in order to rescue them from the clutches of the ruling APC government in the state.
Recall that the Deputy Governor had on June 22, 2020, dumped APC for the PDP before joining the ZLP to actualize his governorship ambition.
