Eko Hot Blog reports that the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Olamide Oladiji, has denied reports that the Assembly is planning to impeach the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Oladiji said that the reports are “not true” and that the Assembly is “busy with what will bring development to the state.”
His comments were corroborated by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, who said that “Nobody is plotting any move to impeach the deputy governor.”
The denials come amid rumors that the Assembly is planning to impeach Aiyedatiwa following the sacking of all his media aides by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
A few days after the sacking, a resignation letter purportedly signed by Aiyedatiwa went viral on social media. However, Aiyedatiwa quickly denied resigning, saying that the letter was fake.
It is unclear why the rumors of impeachment are circulating, but it is possible that they are politically motivated. Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa are reportedly not on the best of terms, and there have been rumors of a rift between the two men.
