Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has declared a three-day mourning period, from January 5th to 7th, in honor of the late Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon. Tayo Oluwatuyi, who passed away on Saturday following a car accident.
The governor, accompanied by members of the State Executive Council, visited Oluwatuyi’s family in Akure, offering condolences and promising governmental support during this difficult time.

Describing Oluwatuyi as a “complete gentleman” and a “recurring decimal in the politics and governance of Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa noted his significant contributions to the state’s history and public service.
In a heartfelt note in the condolence register, the governor wrote, “You came, you lived, you performed your God-given tasks and impacted lives. May you have rest in the bosom of your Creator.”
The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, and other political leaders also expressed their grief. Olabimtan called Oluwatuyi a “patriotic statesman” who believed in grassroots politics and inclusivity.
Similarly, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, a former gubernatorial aspirant, praised Oluwatuyi’s humility and dedication, describing his death as a significant loss to the state.
The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation (LACO) highlighted Oluwatuyi’s exceptional service as SSG, emphasizing his role in governance and his advocacy for the less privileged. The body extended condolences to the state government, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and Oluwatuyi’s community.
