The traditional ruler of Mariwo, in lfedore Council Area of Ondo State, Oloja Adegoke Aluko is in trouble for allegedly selling of lands at the Government Reserve.
Representatives of the Mariwo settlement lodged complaints against the Oloja over what they described as his unwholesome activities in the government reserve to the state government.
Speaking through the Chairman and Secretary of Mariwo Farm Settlement Association, Gabriel Atansuyi, and Ogungbayibi Ojo, they alleged that “the Oloja and his thugs are in the habit to taking over their farmlands forcefully.”
The settlers during an interface with the government, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Gboyega Adefarati, displayed pictures of lands already sold, following which government ordered him to stop the sales of the land forthwith.
The Commissioner, while thanking the settlers for not taking laws into their hands, said the law enforcement agencies have been directed “to arrest anybody found selling or buying the land in the area.”
He said: “Records available to the state government show that Government of the Western Region had adequately compensated the original landowners as far as 1965. Ondo State Government that inherited the settlement does not owe anybody as the lands were properly documented.”
