One Killed In Gas Explosion As Ibeju Lekki LGA Chairman Abdullahi Olowa Visits Scene

Eko Hot Blog reports that a gas explosion has killed a vendor and injured a few others in the Abule Pan area of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area (LGA), Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State.
The explosion reportedly happened around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement, the Chairman of Ibeju Lekki LGA, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who visited the scene of the explosion, commiserated with victims.
The statement, which was signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Akadiri Ayorinde, said the council boss visited victims at the hospital and promised that government will take care of their medical bills.
“The Council Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, upon receiving the news, went there with his entourage of Supervisors and Councillors,” the statement reads in part.
“Hon. Olowa took time to visit the victims in the hospital facilities they were taken to as he assured them of the government’s intervention as regards their medical bills.”
Olowa also admonished gas vendors in Ibeju Lekki LGA to abide by environmental standards and practices in their dealings.
“The combined efforts of Policemen, the Nigerian Army, the Federal Roads Safety Corps, and the Lagos State Fire Service also helped to douse the tension,” the council boss’s spokesperson revealed.
“Gases used in welding are Oxygen and acetylene. Oxy-acetylene welding is a very common welding process.
“In oxy-acetylene welding, the flame produced by the combination of the gases melts the metal faces of the workpieces to be joined, causing them to flow together.
