One Killed, Youth Clash In Anambra Kingship Tussle

One person has been confirmed dead with five others injured following a clash between groups of youths in Ogwuanaocha community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State yesterday.

It was gathered that the clash broke out over a kingship tussle in the community between some youths loyal to the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Oliver Nnaji, and another group loyal to one Mr Okwudili Oganah, who allegedly crowned himself Igwe.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the clash, said that 16 persons had been arrested in connection with the crisis, while the situation had been brought under control by the police.

“On June 25, at about 2:00 a.m. there was a report of a clash between some group of youths allegedly loyal to Igwe Oliver Nnaji (Igwe Ogwuniocha) in a riverine community in Ogbaru area of Anambra State, with another group of persons loyal to one Okwudili Oganah, who allegedly crowned himself Igwe. As a result of the clash, one person was confirmed dead, five persons sustained injuries and some houses vandalised.

“Following the report, the command mobilised and dispatched joint patrol teams, led by the Area Commander Oraifite, ACP Afolabi Wilfred, to the scene. Sixteen suspects have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the actual cause of the incident and extent of the damage.”
