OPINION: 8 Valid Questions Journalists Failed To Ask Suspect Who Murdered Iniobong Umoren
- Recently, the Nigerian police paraded the alleged killer of the late Miss Iniobong Umoren In Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
- The parade was critically needed in order to douse the curiosity of the public as the case had gathered a lot of interest both in and outside the state ever since it broke out.
EKO HOT BLOG recall that some online news platforms had also carried fake news citing that the suspect, Uduak Akpan, had committed suicide while in police custody so the parade was also a means to show that the suspect was still alive.
Be that as it may, the Nigerian police had done their bit by bringing out the suspect to face Nigerians and most especially, Journalists who wanted to get first-hand information from the horse’s mouth.
The later failed woefully as the journalists who tried to interrogate the suspect only ended up asking irrelevant questions which had no bearings to the investigations carried out already.
This fact was even noticed by the Special Assistant, Media to the state Governor, Mr. Aniekeme in a post made via his social media platform recently.
Also an investigative journalist, David Hundeyin has revealed a whole lot in his investigative piece.
Included in his information were phone numbers, addresses, and locations of the suspect’s movement after he committed the crime.

Armed with this information which should have served as an ‘expo’ to the journalist, here are 8 pertinent and valid questions that the journalists should have asked the suspect.
(1, ) Who did you first call to ask for help and why?
(2, ) From the call logs, it showed you called the police DPO, Why did you make that call?
(3,) How did the LGA chairman come into the picture?
(4, ) If Ini Umoren allowed you to have your way with her, would you have still killed her?
(5, ) Who owns the unknown number that called you frequently before and after the incident occurred?
(6, ) Is it true you informed the Uruan LGA chairman before your planned escape to Calabar?
(7,) Some ladies have accused you of almost luring them with the same job invite, can you give names of other ladies who have been victims of your crimes?
(8,) Did you act alone or you had an accomplice when you secretly buried the victim?
These form a summary of the questions the journalists should have asked the suspect in order to get more clues to how and why he acted the way he did and also, to know if there was an accomplice to the crime.
