OPINION: Igbos Should Relax, The Dream Of Biafra Becoming A Nation Is Not Possible

The Republic of Biafra, which seem to have existed from the year 1967 to 1970, during the Nigeria civil war, still lives in the heart of most Igbo people today, as they are seen to portray kin interest in wanting Biafra as a nation, which from every indication cannot be a reality.

Considering the fact that, the most effort channeled into realizing Biafra as a nation, by the Igbo people, with support from international bodies and nations, still didn’t bring it to pass, it is more difficult than ever For Biafra to be achieved, as there are now negative remarks from the last concluded civil war, that threatens the courage of Nigerians, and the Igbo people in question.

Biafra

Looking at some facts, in concern to how the fight for Biafra ended in 1970, would indeed convince you, that Biafra is a lost dream. Reach below for some facts about how the fight for Biafra was lost.

The capture of the common capital of Owerri, (one of the last Biafran fortresses) by the Nigerian powers and the vanishing of Ojukwu to Ivory Coast, prompted the all out give up of the Biafran Nation on January 11, 1970.

The war saw the passing of 1-3 million civilians and more than 50,000 losses of military officers from both the Nigerian military and the Biafran heroes.

With such devastating remarks, and sacrifices, which produced no result for the Igbo people, is the reason I am standing on the opinion that Biafra is lost and lost forever, as whatever interest the Igbo people show towards wanting Biafra today, is related to the sacrifices they made during the civil war, not because they are willing to sacrifice more.
