Opinion: Women’s Day – From Her to the World

Societies are recognizing the achievements and abilities of women to contribute immensely to the development and progress of the nation if their skills, potentials, and abilities are harnessed and they are given a level playing field to showcase the talents they have.

Women are incubators, nurturers, producers, and achievers and their abilities shouldn’t be determined by their gender but by what they can accomplish and have succeeded in. The celebration of the international women’s day is just to bring awareness and a focus to the rights of women, calling to attention the need to teach, educate, inform, and enlighten people that a part of the gender shouldn’t be limited and relegated to the background.

Three to four decades ago, women were not achieving as much as women today are because of the limitation placed on them by the societies, supported and upheld by family units which spiraled into cultural restrictions and mindsets. It was unheard, especially in this part of the world, that a woman was practicing in a field known to be exclusive for men but it’s no longer so as mindsets and beliefs are changing about what a woman can do and should do.

Individuals, families, societies, and governments are now recognizing that abilities and skills have little to do with gender but with the capacities and capabilities of individuals to pursue and achieve whatever they set their minds to do.

Every time the world celebrates the international women’s day, it becomes clear that the potential of everyone in the society, male or female must be harnessed and equal opportunities allotted to tap the resources that would lead to the development, peace, and progress of that nation. There is no defining role that a woman must automatically take; furthermore, she should be allowed to operate within her areas of strengths and trainings to become the best that she can be.

Women can be all that they set their minds to become and all stakeholders: families, society, government, must protect them and give them as many opportunities to enable them become the best of themselves and also contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and nations as well.
