EKO HOT BLOG reports that opposition political parties have rated President Bola Tinubu’s administration, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), poorly one year after taking office.

They argue that the government has failed to improve the lives of Nigerians.

However, the APC’s National Publicity Director, Bala Ibrahim, dismissed these criticisms, calling the opposition “a coalition of confused people.”

Ibrahim claimed, “Since coming to power, President Bola Tinubu has given the country a direction in almost everything it needs. Nigerians are now beginning to reap the benefits of his foresight and good planning. In fact, testimonies from the people have shown that come 2027, Nigerians are not just going to vote for him. They will vote for him overwhelmingly.”

Contrarily, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) labeled Tinubu’s first year as the most challenging in Nigeria since the Civil War (1967-1970). In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP criticized Tinubu’s economic policies, asserting they have worsened living conditions for Nigerians.

Ologunagba remarked, “The PDP insists that the current rising insecurity, excruciating poverty, economic hardship, and general despondency in the country, necessitating the fleeing of thousands of Nigerians, especially the youths, further confirm that there is no hope in sight with the APC in the saddle. Inflicting pain and misery on Nigerians remains the policy thrust of successive APC administrations.”

He added, “The APC administration continues in its anti-people policies with arbitrary hikes in electricity tariffs and imposition of multiple taxes on already impoverished Nigerians with no corresponding tangible development. The consequences of these ill-thought and ill-implemented policies have driven many into early death and extreme poverty.”

The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, Ralphs Okey Nwosu, also criticized Tinubu’s policies, stating they have thrown the Nigerian economy into disarray. During the ADC’s 76th National Executive Committee meeting, Nwosu expressed concerns about the immediate economic hardships imposed by Tinubu’s administration.

Nwosu stated, “It is irreconcilable that a democratically elected government will on day one impose hardship on the people. To increase the price of any commodity by over 400 percent from day one by a new administration is not only callous; it is cruel, dangerous, and evil.”

Similarly, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) accused the APC of ruining hope and weaponizing poverty.

CUPP National Spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, expressed disappointment, highlighting that they had expected Tinubu to perform better than his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

Opposition Scores Tinubu’s First Year Low

Adebayo said, “For a government that came into power with the attractive mantra of Hope Renewed, there is hardly any sector of governance that anyone can point at with any glimmer of hope on the horizon. What we have had in the last year is hope ruined and poverty weaponized as if to punish Nigerians for their electoral choice.”

In response, APC’s Bala Ibrahim countered, “The CUPP has now become the coalition of confusionists. They are completely confused because Nigerians have rejected them.

“Their membership is always reducing by the day because most of the people in the opposition are moving to the APC. This coalition of confusionists is getting it wrong. They need to wake up from their sleep and face reality.”
