Dr. Pitan spoke at the opening of a five-day healthcare outreach programme with the theme: “Back to School: Resume Healthy”, stating that the hospital seeks to foster the State Government’s goal of expanding access to healthcare as encapsulated in its T.H.E.M.E.S development agenda.

He said: “The programme aims to take healthcare back to the community and bridge the gap between healthcare services and people in the community. We believe that by organising this community healthcare programme, we will get across to residents, especially school children, who need to access health care”.

“The programme’s target is to reach 1000 children in three days. Note that over 600 children had previously received eyecare services from the hospital with more than 205 glasses given to children with eye defects free of charge”, he said.

Imploring parents and residents in the community to register for the Lagos State Health Scheme (Ilera Eko) to enjoy affordable healthcare services, the Medical Director also charged parents and guardians to pay attention to their children to prevent any form of sexual abuse.

In her address, the Chairman, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga, said the back-to-school health programme organised by the Orile-Agege General is a great initiative designed to help children return to school healthy and fit.

Mrs. Onayiga congratulated the Managing Director/CEO of the Orile Agege GH on the success of the laudable programme, saying the initiative set a standard for other General Hospitals in Lagos.

“This type of programme is our way of trying to meet the curve and get on track with the Governor in his mission to get Lagos State to remain the Centre of Excellence at all times”, she said.

In his remarks, Commissioner II, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Mobolaji Olukoya, applauded the MD/CEO of Orile Agege General Hospital and his team for conceptualising the laudable programme and providing school children with top-notch medical services.

His words: “This hospital can be called the most caring hospital ever having lived up to its mantra ‘We Care’, by embarking on community healthcare outreach programmes within the last few months”.

Dr. Olukoya further stated that the programme underscores the commitment of the State Government, through Orile Agege General Hospital, to provide enhanced healthcare service delivery to the citizenry, stressing that the initiative should be escalated to other hospitals in Lagos State.

One of the parents whose children participated in the outreach programme, Mrs. Ayodele Abosede, commended the management and staff of Orile-Agege General Hospital for the great initiative, noting that the exercise was seamless and her children enjoyed all six health screenings at no cost.
