EKO HOT BLOG reports that Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in Nigeria, had his cell phone stolen during his Certificate of Return presentation at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The former Governor of Abia State also issued a warning to the public to be cautious of any illicit activities involving his cell phone and numbers.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
Kalu made the disclosure via his verified Facebook page on Thursday. He stated that the phone, which contained both his MTN and Glo lines, was stolen by an unidentified person. He further added that his network providers have been notified of the theft and urged anyone with useful information to come forward.
The incident occurred during the collection of his Certificate of Return, which is a document issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to elected officials after the conclusion of an election. It serves as proof that the individual has been duly elected to their respective office.
Kalu, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party, was elected to the Senate in 2019. He had previously served as Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007.
The theft of his cell phone is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents in Nigeria, where politicians and public figures have been targeted by thieves.
It also highlights the need for increased security measures to protect public officials and prevent the loss of sensitive information.
