Eko Hot Blog reports that after another stellar season with Napoli, Nigerian international Victor Osimhen has been named in the 2023/24 Serie A Team of the Season.
Osimhen was included in the 23-man list announced on the official social media channels of Serie A.
Although he didn’t match his prolific 2022/23 season, where he topped the Serie A scoring charts with 26 goals and led Napoli to their first Scudetto in over three decades.
Osimhen still posted impressive numbers despite Napoli’s struggles.
In a challenging season where the former champions lost 11 games and secured only 13 wins, the striker still made a significant impact.
Despite missing a month due to his participation with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast earlier this year.
Osimhen scored 15 goals and provided three assists in 24 league games.
Despite a performance below his usual standards, Osimhen remains Napoli’s top scorer and the third-highest scorer in the Serie A.
Notably, only Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez (24 goals) and Juventus’s Dušan Vlahović (16 goals) outscored him in the league.
Martínez and Vlahović join Osimhen in the Serie A Team of the Season for their notable contributions.
Osimhen’s Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also earns recognition.
Sunday’s match against Lecce might mark Osimhen’s final appearance for Napoli amid links to various top European clubs.
Meanwhile, despite his impressive performance for Atalanta, Ademola Lookman didn’t make the cut, he contributed 15 goals (nine goals and six assists) in 29 Serie A games.
Though Samuel Chukwueze’s missed out on the cut.
His AC Milan teammates Christian Pulisic, Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud, and Rafael Leao joined Osimhen on the prestigious list.
