Osun PDP Alleges Plot To Arrest 25 Party Members

  • Osun PDP warns of 25 state officials facing unofficial arrest by Abuja security teams.

  • No warrants for planned arrests; operations set to begin next week.

  • APC members allegedly boast about federal might to target Osun government officials and PDP leader

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over the potential unofficial arrest and abduction of 25 state officials by special security teams from Abuja.

In a statement released by the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, in Osogbo on Saturday, it was disclosed that the security team, lacking any warrant of arrest, intends to commence its operations in the coming week.

According to the statement, the targeted individuals for arrest include four special advisers, five party leaders, and 15 other state officials, who are purportedly slated for transfer to Abuja upon their apprehension.

Bisi further revealed that the plan to arrest PDP and Osun Government officials was uncovered on Thursday night, allegedly by members of the APC in the state. These individuals purportedly boasted about leveraging federal power to victimize Osun government officials and certain leaders of the ruling PDP.

The PDP chairman, however, called on the Police Service Commission and the Department of State Services to avoid political partisanship and eschew becoming an instrument of political vendetta and vengeance in the hands of those seeking pounds of flesh because they lost a free and fair governorship election.

“I want to call on President Bola Tinubu to caution members of his party in Osun because we will not allow our members to be harassed or victimized in the state. We seek Mr President’s immediate intervention,” the chairman said.

But responding in another statement, Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, described PDP allegations as baseless and a mere fabrication to avoid answering pertinent questions regarding the contract procurement process supervised by the Adeleke government.

PDP

Lawal stated that apprehension being exercised by the Osun PDP was part of the ploy to mystify the issue surrounding how the government of Osun recently awarded over N50bn road contracts to unqualified companies and cronies of the party with no technical and professional competence to execute road projects.

He disclosed that the efforts of the PDP to whip up unmerited sympathy from the innocent citizenry had fallen flat as the informed citizens of the state were more determined to know the details of the shoddy contract process leading to how Governor Adeleke and his companions awarded state contracts to the serving deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, contrary to the provision of the rules guiding contract award.

The hostilities involving Osun PDP and APC became stronger earlier in the week when the opposition party came up with allegations that Adeleke has been awarding contracts to unqualified companies of his cronies and family members.

Though the PDP denied the allegations and defended Adeleke over the ongoing projects across the state, the government few hours after, unveiled a committee that would prosecute those found culpable in the probe of contracts awarded by the immediate past administration of the Mr Adegboyega Oyetola.
