Otti Alleged Plans To Join APC
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has firmly dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to defect from the Labour Party (LP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Saturday, April 26, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti described the speculation as baseless and unfounded. He refuted claims that he had met with Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to finalise arrangements for a defection to the APC.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Otti urged the public to focus on issues of governance rather than premature political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections. He emphasised that he remains committed to the Labour Party, the platform under which he emerged victorious in the last election, and insisted he has no plans to abandon it.
He further assured the people of Abia that no political decision impacting the state would be taken without extensive consultations with stakeholders and the citizens.
“The report that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, OFR, held a meeting with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State over his alleged planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is false, baseless and unfounded. It’s completely devoid of substance and thus should be disregarded,” the statement read.
Clarifying his presence alongside Uzodinma, Ekeoma explained that after the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday, April 24, Otti and a few other governors attended a private celebration for Uzodinma’s twin daughters, an event unrelated to politics.
Ekeoma stressed that while Otti’s performance and rising profile naturally attract attention and speculation, any significant political decision would be made only after consulting widely and ensuring it serves the best interests of Abians.
“Governor Otti strongly believes that although political activities seem to be gathering momentum, it would be unfair to the Abia electorate if politics of 2027, instead of governance, dominates discussions less than two years into the administration,” he added.
Otti Alleged Plans To Join APC
He concluded by reiterating Otti’s unwavering loyalty to the Labour Party, insisting that there are no ongoing talks, plans, or discussions about defecting to the APC or any other party.
