Otunba T.J. Abass Honored for Community Service by Eko Club Austin In Dallas, Texas
Eko Hot Blog reports that, Otunba T.J. Abass, the Grand Patron of Eko Club Austin and the President Emeritus of Eko Club International, received a special peer recognition award at the 1st 2024 Quarterly General Meeting of Eko Club International.
The meeting was held by Eko Club Dallas/Fortworth, a member chapter of Eko Club International, and brought together Lagosians from around the world to discuss issues related to the development of Lagos State.

The award was presented by Eko Club Austin in recognition of Otunba TJ Abass’s exceptional spirit of altruism and commitment to giving back to the community, as well as his meritorious service to the advancement of the organization and the development of Lagos State.
The presentation was a highlight of the two-day event, which took place in Dallas-Fort Worth and included heartfelt speeches from the award presenter and the honoree.
Taking the stage, the award presenter, and President, Eko Club Austin, Christie Okolie lauded Otunba Abass as “a man of substance” and highlighted his standing within the organization. In expressing the group’s deep appreciation, Okolie, joined by Mrs. Yetunde Conrad (former President of Eko Club Austin) and Mrs. Titi Sanusi (Grand Matron), who also gave speeches, collectively stated, “We want to let you know that we appreciate you, love you, cherish you, and we just want to say thank you for all your support.”
Visibly moved, Otunba T.J. Abass took the podium, expressing his gratitude for the unexpected honor from his Eko Club Austin peers. “Receiving an award from fellow members of an international organisation dedicated to the spirit of altruism and giving back to the community aligns with the longstanding mantra of Eko Club, making this moment even more special. I truly cherish this honour.”
He admitted his surprise: “I wasn’t expecting this. I just came here to have a wonderful time with my chapter members. But of course, coming from you is something that I will take. And I will cherish it for the rest of my life.”
Reflecting deeply, Otunba Abass emphasised, “We cannot truly serve society without giving back. Giving is the height of anything we do, and that has been the mantra of our organisation. I will continue to make an impact beautifully, sowing the seeds of hope for a better tomorrow.”
Eko Club International, is a non-profit organisation that serves as an umbrella body for Eko Clubs in the diaspora. These clubs, established by indigenes of Lagos State, are dedicated to promoting the state’s socio-economic development and fostering a spirit of camaraderie among members.
With branches in various cities across the globe, including Austin, Dallas, Houston, and Atlanta in the United States, Canada and Europe, Eko Club International has a strong presence in the diaspora. These clubs actively engage in community service projects, cultural preservation initiatives, and philanthropic endeavours, upholding the organisation’s values of altruism and giving back.
Otunba Abass went further to express his appreciation to members of Eko Club international present at the event “On that note, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone. To all the members of Eko Club International present here, I genuinely appreciate your presence. Your support brings us immense joy. God bless you all.”
