EKO HOT BLOG reports that Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has given his opinion on the team’s chances of winning the Premier League this season. The former striker also praised manager Erik ten Hag’s impact on the club since joining at the start of the season.
Speaking to ESPN, Rooney stated that he would not rule out the possibility of Manchester United winning the league ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City.
The Red Devils are currently in third place on the Premier League table, three points behind Manchester City and five behind leaders Arsenal.
Rooney highlighted the positive influence that ten Hag has had on the team, stating that he is exactly what Manchester United has needed for a few years now. The former striker has visited the club’s training ground several times and has spoken with players, who have expressed their enjoyment in working under the Dutch manager.
Furthermore, Rooney noted that ten Hag demands a lot from his players, but has been able to change the team’s mindset, confidence and belief that they are a good team. He also mentioned that people are starting to see this change this season, and Manchester United is in a good position.
Rooney remains optimistic about Manchester United’s chances of winning the league this season, stating that they are only five points off the top spot with many games left to play. As the season progresses, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can maintain their form and compete with Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title.
“He [Ten Hag] is exactly what Manchester United have needed for a few years now,” Rooney told ESPN.
“I have been down to the training ground quite a few times, especially in the [MLS] off-season when I was back home in England and spoke to quite a few of the players.
“I know the players are enjoying working under him [Ten Hag], which is always important, but he demands a lot of his players.
“I think he has changed the mindset and the confidence and belief of the players, that they are actually a good team, and I think people are starting to see that this season and they are in a good position. They are five points off the top spot, you know there [are] still a lot of games to go. So you never know.”
