At Thursday’s hearing, Justice M. Agboola ruled that the application seeking to stop the coronation could not proceed until issues surrounding the proper service of court processes on Oba Haastrup are resolved. The case was filed by the Arimoro family of the Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House, challenging Haastrup’s emergence.
The suit, marked HL/8/25, has the monarch-elect, Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde, the Attorney General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, and Ilesa kingmakers as respondents.
During the proceedings, counsel for the claimant, Oyebola Odeleye, sought to move a pending application to stop the coronation. However, Chief State Counsel Muyiwa Ogunleye, representing the state government, informed the court of an earlier motion by the first respondent’s counsel, Oluwasesan Dada, seeking to set aside the service of the claimant’s process on Oba Haastrup.
Dada, who was absent in court, cited his appearance at the Court of Appeal, Ibadan, and argued that his client had not been properly served, as the monarch-elect was already in seclusion and inaccessible at the time the service was claimed.
Justice Agboola, while adjourning the matter to July 3 for hearing of all pending applications, noted that both parties had not shown seriousness, allowing the matter to drag beyond the usual 60-day period. He emphasized that no injunction could be granted until the service issue is properly addressed.
Meanwhile, security has been heightened in Ilesa ahead of the coronation. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have deployed operatives to ensure a peaceful and well-coordinated event.

According to a statement by NSCDC spokesperson Kehinde Adeleke, personnel have been positioned across strategic locations to prevent disruption, manage the crowd, and guarantee the safety of dignitaries. Similarly, the FRSC said it has stationed officers along routes leading to the venues to ease traffic flow.
The coronation ceremony is set to take place at Obokungbusi Hall, with a reception at Ilesa Grammar School. Guests from across the country and beyond are expected to grace the occasion.
