Oyetola Repeals Aregbesola’s Educational Reforms As Osun Returns To 6-3-3-4 System

• School to revert to their old names.

• Single-gender schools that were changed to mixed school to return to old order.

Osun State government on Wednesday announced the abrogation of 4-5-3-4 school year system promulgated by the erstwhile governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola.

According to the commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, who announced the development, the state will now revert to widely used 6-3-3-4 educational system in the country.

This development is a precursor to recommendations of the Education Review White Paper on the restructuring and remodification of some education policies.

Egbemode said the government would make recommendations were implemented to ensure that the policies benefit all stakeholders.

It added that the new policy will take effect from the new academic year

She said: “Following consultation with stakeholders, the government has approved recommendations in the White Paper with respect to improving the system’s functionality for implementation.

“The implementation takes effect from the new academic year. Schools will revert to the national 6-3-3-4 education system as against the 4-5-3-4.

Also affected by the new policy is the single uniform regime, the state government said schools will not revert back to original uniform as it will help engendered a sense of identity in schools, while at the same time putting a check on school absenteeism, uncivil characters and social vices among students.

“Schools will revert to their original uniforms instead of the single uniform regime that has been in place. This is critical to the restoration of a sense of identity in pupils and to check the spate of indiscipline and truancy in our schools. Also, single-gender schools that were changed to mixed schools shall return to the old order, while schools shall also return to their old names.

“Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is committed to ensuring quality education in line with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) because an educated citizenry will assure our state with a greater future than its present. The steps taken by the Oyetola administration are strictly to build a better tomorrow for our children and ensure a state that will stand tall in Nigeria.”

The government has also approved the appointment of Prince Benjamin Abiona as Onila of Ila-Odo in Odo Otin North Local Government; Prince Adebayo Joseph as Apaula of Ipaula-Ijesha in Atakumosa East Local Government; and Prince Adewunmi Ogidiolu as Oniwoye of Iwoye Ijesha in Oriade Local Government.
