Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has issued a 48-hour abatement notice to Oyingbo market executives.
The ministry’s commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday.
He said the notice was over indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions at the market.
The Lagos Waste Management Authority had on Wednesday carried out an inspection of the market.
According to Wahab, the inspection led the environment ministry to take action.
“Lagos State government through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources served 48 hours abatement notice to Oyingbo market executives over indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions,” the commissioner said.
He also shared the image of the notice titled “Abatement Of Nuisance Notice Under Environmental Sanitation Law 2001”.

It partly read, “Inspection carried out under the above-mentioned Law on tenement situated at Oyingbo Market, within Lagos State on 26/06/24 has revealed that you have failed to keep your tenement and its surrounding free from filth, rubbish, refuse or waste of all description and indiscriminate refuse disposal”.
In a related development, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Thursday sealed off a public toilet at Ogunlana Street, Egbeda, Lagos which gave shelter to a large number of persons that could not be accounted for being bike riders.

The environment commissioner said the facility was sealed in response to a public report.
“The visit to the toilet by the agency revealed that there was a large volume of untreated wastewater being discharged into the public drainage causing fowl smell in the community, potential source of contamination to the ground water, and unruly behaviour of the riders,” Wahab wrote on X.
“All citizens of the State are enjoined to desist from all acts of wastewater mismanagement that could potentially lead to the spread of Cholera in the State.”
