Oyo: APC Reacts To Makinde’s Accusation Of Plans To Attack INEC Facilities

Oyo APC has responded to Makinde’s accusations of plans to attack the INEC facilities in the state.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the allegation made by the state governor, Seyi Makinde about plans to attack the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities in the state.

According to the APC in the state, it has no plan whatsoever to attack INEC facilities in the state as alleged by Makinde.

EDITOR’S PICKS

It was earlier reported that Makinde alleged that plans by the opposition in the state have been concluded to launch attacks on INEC facilities in the state.

Makinde cautioned the electoral body, asking it to be on guard as information reaching him indicates that there are plans to attack INEC facilities in the state to disorient the people.

The governor in a statement signed by the chairman of his campaign committee, Dotun Oyelade, told the opposition in the state that committing such crimes won’t stop them from losing.

However, this online media platform learnt that the main opposition in the state, which is APC, has reacted to Makinde”s allegation saying it is a false alarm.

The party in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Oyo APC, Olawale Sadare, said it was surprised that the governor’s campaign committee is raising false claims because none of its members is interested in attacking any INEC facilities.

It also said Makinde’s accusation was mere falsehood and wicked propaganda to deceive the people.

The Oyo APC further described the move as a shameful attempt to not only mislead the public but to destroy the current democratic dispensation in the state.

It as well emphasised that the party could have ignored Makinde’s allegation, but to set the records straight, the Oyo APC has no reason whatsoever to plan an arson attack on any individual let alone INEC facilities.

The party also called on relevant stakeholders not to be dissuaded by the reports.

It also called on necessary security agencies, and traditional and religious leaders to collaborate to deal with individuals or groups behind such attacks.

“We could have ignored the merchant of blackmail on their puerile claim of arson plan but we felt a need to put it on record that APC does not have any reason whatsoever to sponsor attacks against individuals and public facilities (including INEC offices) as it is not in our character or idiosyncrasy to destroy or sabotage.

“It is highly imperative for security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders as well as patriots and friends of Nigeria to collaborate and ensure that no individual or group of individuals is allowed to truncate the electoral process for selfish gains,” the party added.
