Eko Hot Blog reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, empathized with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde over the tragic explosion that occurred in his state last night.
He sent the condolence to Makinde through X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I’m sending heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State on the tragic Ibadan explosion,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also empathized with the families of the victims, calling for unity and support for the people in this challenging times.
“My thoughts are with the families of the victims. This is a disheartening incident that calls for unity and support in these challenging times,” the governor said.
He commended the Oyo governor for the swift response to salvage the situation, pledging to support the state in their trying time.
“Commendable efforts by Governor Makinde for the swift response and deployment of first responders in the wake of the disaster. The collaboration of agencies and rescue operations is crucial.
“The people of Lagos stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Oyo State, and we are ready to provide any support required during these times,” Sanwo-Olu added.
It was reported that Makinde, on Wednesday, said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the explosion that rocked the Bodija Area of Ibadan, the state capital on Tuesday was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners.
The Oyo governor, who visited the scene of the explosion Tuesday night, said though further investigations were still ongoing, anyone found culpable would be brought to book.
He also revealed that the “medical bills of victims will be picked by the government” while promising to ensure that all those whose houses were affected were ‘supported to rebuild their lives”
The governor urged residents to be calm, noting that rescue operations had already started at the scene of the incident.
