The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the Anti-Open Grassing Bill prohibiting cattle rearers from open rearing of cattle.
This came after Fulani herdsmen threatened the Assembly with law suit to stop the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Bill 2019.
The law makers stressed that when the bill becomes law it would foster peaceful coexistence in the state.
The Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, urged the people of the state to ignore false claims and misinterpretation of the bill.
Ogundoyin said “We assured the people that all suggestions and memoranda of understanding submitted by various groups, agencies and representatives of different communities and tribes on the bill were looked into before it was passed.”
The speaker stressed that the Assembly through the bill was only seeking a legal framework to address open rearing and grazing, as well as encourage and protect the economic activities of others who were into agricultural-related ventures
