Oyo PDP Leaders, Gov. Seyi Makinde At Loggerhead Over Appointments

Alleged crisis tearing Oyo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) apart is taking a new dimension as party leaders have reportedly threatened to stay away from the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, allegedly over recent appointments he made in his cabinet.

Makinde had focused his attention on appointing technocrats into government. But according to information gathered from some insiders, party stakeholders are kicking and insisting that major appointments must first be made from among ‘real party loyalists’.

It had been alleged that Governor Makinde had been the major financier of the party in the past five years which reportedly encouraged many of the party stalwarts to return to the party due to his large financial support.

However, crisis began when the governor began making appointments from among technocrats allegedly without given consideration to party stakeholders.

A PDP chief close to the governor had told this reporter that the governor was not obliged to pander to the aggrieved party members, alleging that they supported him ”only because of his money”.

”I believe Makinde had paid them off during the campaign and they don’t have any other thing to benefit from his government. They didn’t support him for free,” the source claimed.
