Oyo Police Parade 15 Suspects for Cultism and Firearms Offences
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects linked to cultism and illegal possession of firearms across Ibadan. The arrests were made in areas identified as crime hotspots, including Apete, Ijokodo, Moniya, Samonda, Sango, and the Iwo-Road axis.
The suspects confessed to being members of the “Brother Across Nigeria” (BAN), also known as “Alora.”
The Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, revealed that the arrests followed intelligence-led raids and sting operations. Five suspects were caught at the Federal Polytechnic Ayede while attempting to recruit students into the cult group.
Recovered items include five cult-branded jackets, three Dane guns, a locally-made pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and a red Toyota Camry with registration number KTU 41 JH.
In addition, four suspects were arrested near Shasha Motor Park in Ojoo, where weapons and illicit drugs were found. The police also apprehended three robbery suspects in Ijokodo on December 14, recovering firearms during the operation. These arrests are part of the ongoing crackdown on violent crimes across the state.
Commissioner Sonubi expressed concerns over rising cult activities and urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to help discourage young people from joining cult groups. He stressed that the police would not tolerate cultism or activities threatening public peace in Oyo State.
To enhance security during the festive season, the police announced plans for increased patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led activities across the state. Sonubi assured residents of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and safety in Oyo State.
The police boss emphasized the importance of community participation in fighting crime. He urged residents to report suspicious activities, saying, “If you see something, say something, and the police will do something.”
