The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, emphasized the government’s commitment to enforcing the law and holding individuals accountable, regardless of their status.

Speaking on the suspension, Oyelade stated, “The Oyo State Government will hit hard at anyone, no matter how highly placed, who contravenes the law. In the light of our recent experience and the government’s daily efforts to rid our land of criminals, we are sending the signal to all like-minded elements to vacate our zone or be caught and brought to justice.”

The Commissioner revealed that the decision to suspend the Onido was based on an intelligence report linking him to illegal mining operations within the state.

The government sees this as a necessary measure to address issues of criminality and maintain law and order.

Regarding the potential consequences for the suspended monarch, Oyelade remarked, “All options are on the table.” This suggests that the government is considering various actions, including the possibility of dethronement, pending the outcome of the investigation.

The suspension was officially communicated to the Onido in a letter dated February 2, 2024, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola.
