The anger and frustration which the residents of Igangan town in Ibarapa North Local government area in Oyo state are seething with boiled over yesterday.
Tension has been brewing in the town for a while now following the recent atrocities and mindless attack allegedly perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen.
Consequently, a youth leader in the state, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known has Sunday Igboho, gave the herders seven days ultimatum to leave the town.
He accused them of being behind the killings and kidnapping in the area and other part of the state.
On Friday, following the expiration of the ultimatum given to Fulanis, some angry and rampaging youths burnt down the house of the Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir..
Ekohotblog gathered that about eleven cars were also set ablaze during the incident.
The incident happened shortly after the visit of Mr. Adeyemo to the town.
Public Relations Officer of Jamunatirube, Alhaji Mustafa Aliu confirmed the incident to journalists.
Abdulkadir also confirmed the attack on his house.
He disclosed that they had to scamper for safety and seek refuge in the bush, adding that some of his children were injured in the attack.
He said, “As we speak, we are in the bush. Our cars numbering about eleven have been burnt. Some of my children sustained injuries and we are finding a way to take them to the hospital. My children have left their houses for the bush.
“We need government to help us. Police, operation burst and other security agencies were there when they set my house ablaze.”
But a close aide to Adeyemo who does not want his name mentioned, said the incident must have happened after his principal had left Igangan town.
He disclosed that Adeyemo’s presence in the town was not to foment trouble but sue for peace and allay fears of the Yorubas.
He said, “Sunday Igboho was there not to fight but to appeal to both sides and assure Yoruba residents that there won’t be problem.”
