A seemingly livid President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the police to unleash terror on Sunday Adeyemo, popular known as Sunday Igboho, and his followers if they continue to forment trouble in Oyo state.
Ekohotblog reports that Sunday Igboho is behind the contentious ultimatum given to Fulanis to leave Oyo state.
He accused the ethnic group of being responsible for the mindless killings and wanton attacks on Yorubas in the Ibarapa area of the state.
Under Nigerian Constitution all citizens have the fundamental rights to live in any parts of the country.
However, Sunday Igboho and others have leveraged on the pent-up frustration, anger and displeasure of Yoruba political leadership against perennial herdsmen violence to issue daring and confrontational personal orders.
Sunday Igboho and army of his followers stormed Oke-Ogun parts of Oyo State on Friday to effect the ultimate given to the Fulanis, a development that led to a vicious attack that involved setting of the home, Cars and other assets of a famous Fulani chief ablaze.
“The president was briefed on the matter and he said Sunday’s action can disturb public peace and it should stop,” Peoples Gazette quoted a police source to have said
According to the source, the president had directed the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to use lethal force on Igboho and his foot soldiers if they continue to push the country to the brink civil war.
“We were told from IG’s office that the president has asked for Sunday Igboho and his followers to be shot at sight if they continue pushing to drag Nigeria into a civil war.” the police source said
Another police source said that Adamu was looking at other ways to resolve the issue, part of which would include meeting with Yoruba leaders.
“He does not want to flout presidential directive, but he has been talking to Yoruba leaders to find other means of preventing the matter from escalating
“A possible trip to the South-west is also on the table.” The senior police officer said
