Job Title: Software Architect

  • Product development activities at Paga fall within the Product Development group, which has distinct, full-stack (from a resource perspective) teams dedicated to different functional organization units in the company. For example, one of the functional teams in the Product Development team is the Agent Network Team which is responsible for development and delivery of products used by the large network of financial service delivery point (agents), across the countries where Paga exists.
  • As a full-stack team, this team includes project management, product management, software and database engineering, quality assurance, and UI/UX/Product-Design resources. All teams execute product development using agile (Scrum) methodologies.
  • As a Software Architect at Paga, you will be responsible for the technical ownership of entire products, platforms or services within the scope of Paga’s business.
  • You will be responsible for designing and delivering systems that meet all the “ities” expected of enterprise-grade, financial systems (scalability, extensibility, security, etc.).
  • You will be responsible for the technical oversight of one or more teams of Software and Database Engineers, working with you to realize your product vision.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Vision & Strategic Leadership – Help develop and grow the technical vision for the Paga business and engage meaningfully in the strategic development of the overall business. Engage directly in business strategic leadership when it relates to product and technical decision making.
  • Broad-scoped Technical Ownership – Independently oversees all software concerns for some of the major platform areas or services. Own end-to-end responsibility for a large portion of the software system including design and implementation and including a strong knowledge of complementary engineering aspects such as data management, dev-ops and infrastructure. Own responsibility for key delivery criteria such as performance, reliability, cost, security and maintainability for large portions of the system
  • Technical Leadership – Oversees key architectural concerns such as security, scalability/performance, reliability, maintainability, and modularity. Applies a platform-wide perspective to decision making around these concerns, including infrastructural, deployment, delivery and other technically relevant concerns.
  • Process Leadership – Drive development and improvement of technical product development processes in collaborations with product development management.
  • Code Quality Review – Provide broad-scoped yet in-depth code review for technically complex and high-impact code changes.
  • Partner Engagement – Working effectively with industry/ecosystem partners to accomplish product goals

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • A degree in a related discipline
  • 10+ years of continuous experience working on enterprise software application development OR an advanced degree in a related discipline and at least 8 years of continuous experience working on enterprise software application development

  • As a Senior Database Architect, you will own primary responsibility for the architecture, performance, security and reliability of the core relational databases and no-relational data stores on the Paga platform. You will work closely with the software engineering teams (including database engineers) and the platform team (infrastructure and devops) to achieve this. This means:
    • Engaging in strategic data and software design decision making
    • Leading data architectural innovation design, availability and reliability implementations and operations
    • Working with teams to embed best-of-kind development practices to maintain data storage solution cohesion, reliability and performance
    • Developing and maintain data storage solution performance monitoring solutions in collaboration with the platform team

  • The senior database architect is a key, senior member of the Product Development Team, which is responsible for all aspects of development and management of the Paga product platform. Database architecture activities usually span several technical areas so database architects will work closely with all of these teams while reporting directly to the lead software architect (application side) in the Paga development team structure.
  • This role owns primary responsibility for the effective operation and growth of the Paga core data storage solutions which at present exists in both Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL deployments.

Knowledge And Skill Requirements

  • 10+ working with relevant DBMSs and 4+ years of database administration experience with relevant DMBSs
  • Experience administering MS SQL Server required
  • Experience administering PostgreSQL highly desirable

About The Role

  • The Enterprise Risk Manager will be responsible for supporting the head in the development, re-design, implementation and maintenance of the risk management framework within Paga in line with the company’s strategic plans and its 3rd party activities.
  • This includes developing and maintaining detailed risk management policies and processes and working with key business stakeholders to facilitate the embedding of these across the organization.
  • The Risk Manager will also be responsible for the ongoing review and challenge of risk framework effectiveness and the implementation of risk management best practice.

Primary Responsibilities
Managing Relationships:

  • Provide support to key business stakeholders in implementing the risk framework
  • Work closely with the Head of risk in defining the company’s risk appetite
  • Manage the relationship with the 3rd party outsourced provider risk representatives
  • Engage with company-wide risk champions
  • Primary contact for significant incidents or risk events

Managing Process and Administration:

  • Provide support to the Head of risk, in the design, documentation, communication and implementation of the risk management framework
  • Prepare, maintain and communicate detailed risk management policies and processes including the risk control self-assessment process.
  • Lead the risk assessment process for the company’s key products and projects.
  • Assist in the annual review of the risk management policy in preparation for Board sign off, communicating amendments to business areas as required.
  • Assist with the roll out of the risk control self-assessment and annual policy compliance processes, working with business stakeholders and 3rd party providers where appropriate
  • Scope and deliver the ongoing self-assessment of risk management processes and procedures, scoping, agreeing and implementing improvements as required
  • Review, assess and report significant risks and issues identified or reported by the business in line with the incident management process and assist the business in defining and agreeing remedial action
  • Assist business lines in identification of key risks and mitigating controls as well as action plans to address any gaps in the mitigating measures identified.
  • Monitoring the implementation of action plans to address key risks on the risk and control self-assessments/risk registers.
  • Prepare and collate monthly risk reporting to the Head of Risk, Compliance and internal Audit and management.
  • Challenge and periodically assess business area control assessments, including 3rd parties, reporting, recommending and agreeing remedial action where required
  • Assist key business stakeholders in identifying and responding effectively to risks arising from internal changes or external events.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of a 2:1 in an analytical field such as Engineering, Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, etc
  • At least 7 years relevant work experience
  • Knowledgeable in technology
  • Knowledge of risk management and auditing.
  • Must have completed the mandatory NYSC
  • Previous experience in a risk management role within financial services ideally within a Platform environment
  • Excellent knowledge of industry best risk management practice.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervises CIT department staff, including setting schedules, implementing training, and assessing performance for the team and generally leading the team providing corporate IT services across the company.
  • Establish and maintain company-wide security policies and procedures, covering both corporate IT and potentially some datacenter related oversight responsibilities.
  • Set vision and strategy for enabling a highly efficient workforce, including evaluating and managing tools for productivity such as communication tools (such as Blink, Slack) and data sharing (Box, Dropbox), and other tools that will support high productivity in light of our increasingly dispersed/remote workforce.
  • Own help desk support, including provisioning and maintaining of PC and Mac desktops and laptops for all employees and ensuring appropriate connection to the Internet and corporate networks. This includes supporting corporate headquarters, as well as multiple other offices, both in Nigeria and internationally.
  • Implements an IT budget for the organisation as a whole or for specific departments + Tracks inventory and status for hardware and software throughout an organisation
