A painter identified as Niyi Abegunde has been arrested by the police in Ibadan, Oyo State for allegedly killing a 69-year-old retiree and taken away her Automated Teller Machine card with N2 million in her bank account.
The victim identified as Lady Evangelist Grace Ajibola, with the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Imole, Agbeni, Ibadan, was murdered in the morning of Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Johnson Awe area of Oluyole Estate where she had been living since 1975.
Information gathered revealed that the woman had engaged the service of the painter in November 2019 and had become a regular face in the house for doing a perfect job to the extent of attending vigils organised by the woman on the third Monday of every month. It was also said that he used to run errands for her in her car.
The late Ajibola was said to have asked him a week earlier to help her withdraw some money from her account in a first-generation bank in Apata area of Ibadan, but the painter after withdrawing the money, decided to check her account balance and he found over N2 million in the account.

So on Tuesday, March 17, he was said to have come to the house after the young girl living with the woman had gone to school, He was said to have descended on the woman and strangled her to death on 17th March 2020 after the young girl living with the woman had gone to school and locked the door of the house after taking her phone and the ATM card and fled.
He was said to have already withdrawn the sum of one hundred and twenty thousand naira from the account before policemen were informed about the murder of the old woman. The police eventually got details of the transaction made by the culprit from the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) in the bank.
He was nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Dugbe at a hideout in Akure, Ondo State on Wednesday, 25th March 2020
A police source who confirmed the arrest of Abegunde said that he is currently giving useful information about the incident.
