Panic In Onitsha As Truck Filled With Unused Bullets Runs Into Ditch

  • Security operatives subsequently arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area

There was palpable apprehension in Onitsha on Sunday following an accident involving a truck loaded with live rounds.

The said truck crashed into a ditch along Awka road in Anambra state and spilled its contents, creating anxiety among the already tensed residents of the beleaguered state.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

Bullets were strewn all over the area where the accident occurred, the driver of the truck was said to have made an earlier unsuccessful attempt to load the bullets back into the truck.

Security operatives subsequently arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area from presence of  would-be owner of the rounds and also prevented residents from getting close to scene.

While there was no casualty from the incident, a short while later, normal vehicular movement continued on the road,

The development comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in the south-east.

There have been attacks on security facilities across the south-east, leading to killing of police officers, and razing of stations.
