Paralympics: Sports Minister Hails Onyinyechi For Winning Nigeria’s First Gold Medal

Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has expressed profound pride and joy following Onyinyechi Mark’s triumph at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, where she clinched Nigeria’s first gold medal and set a remarkable new world record.

Mark, competing in the women’s up to 61kg Para-Powerlifting category, not only broke her previous world record by lifting an incredible 147kg but also raised the bar to an astonishing 150kg, cementing her status as a dominant force in the sport.

Senator Owan Enoh, in a congratulatory message, hailed Onyinyechi Mark’s historic achievement, thus, “This performance is nothing short of phenomenal. Today, you hoisted the flag of our great nation at the ongoing Paralympics, having won Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold medal at the Games. Not only did you lift 147kg to break the Paralympics record and win a Gold Medal, you took a challenge given to you, lifted 150kg to set a new world record.”
