Parents Agree With NFF That Manchester United Starlet Should Play For Nigeria
- Born in England, Shola Shoretire is of Nigerian father and a British mother
- He is eligible to play for both Nigeria and England
- He is yet to represent his county of birth at any level.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has continued in their mission of ensuring that the best players across the world represents Nigeria in the popular round leather game.
Over the years, Nigeria has produced some fantastic players like Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Okocha, John Obi Mikel and Obafemi Martins to name but few.
However, things has changed over the years with the country’s football governing body following the global direction of capturing ready made players.
From Victor Moses to Alexander Iwobi, Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Maduka Okoye, Joe Aribo, Olaoluwa Aina, Tyronne Ebuehi and many others on the long list of players with foreign upbringing, Gernot Rohr will have to make do with more with similar traits.
Manchester United youngster sensation Shola Shoretire is another player the NFF are hoping to convince to represent the country.
The 17-year-old grabbed the headline when he made his debut for Manchester United in their 3-1 win over Newcastle United in the English Premier League.
His participation won’t go without him entering the record books as the second youngest player to play for the Red Devils in the Premier League.
As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG , his parents has agreed with the Federation that he will play for Nigeria and the U-20 could have been a launchpad for him but for the failure of the team to do well in the last WAFU U-20 tournament.
“I spoke with his parents and they gave me their words that he will play for Nigeria . He hasn’t represented England at any level so it was a straight forward decision”, an anonymous NFF member reveals
“That said I know how excited he was when he was told about representing Nigeria. No hassles over waiting for England . He wanted us badly but now we have to wait and see. He is now in the spotlight”, he concluded.
