Parishioners React After Military Officers ‘Kidnapped’ Catholic Priest In Cross River
- Ekohotblog, 30th October, 2020
- A Catholic priest in Cross River state has been forcefully kidnapped
- At first, it was alleged that he was abducted, but eyewitnesses say it was more of an arrest in a commando-style
- The priest’s brother is said to have been critical of the authorities in the state.
A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Titus Armon, was forcefully taken away from his parish in Abuochiche, Bekwarra local government area of Cross River state on Thursday, October 29.
At the time of his abduction by men in military uniform at 6 pm in front of worshippers, Armon was the assistant parish priest of Holy Spirit Parish in Abuochiche.
Eye witness accounts by parishioners who attended evening mass said he was picked up after he finished the evening mass and was greeting parishioners.
There are also insinuations that the priest was arrested by men in military uniform dispatched from Calabar on the orders of Governor Ben Ayade.
He was said to have been arrested in place of his twin brother, also a priest who serves in Anambra state.
His twin brother has recently been highly critical of the Cross River state governor.
An eye witness said:
“We look forward to his release and more details on why he was arrested and who instigated his arrest as the day goes by.”
One of the parishioners told journalists:
“His twin brother has been recently highly critical of Governor Ben Ayade. Father Armon, the one at Anambra had written a very critical fact check on the tenure of Governor Ayade.”
