EKO HOT BLOG gathered that a plane was towed along the side of the expressway in Lagos on Tuesday night and it caused widespread confusion to commuters and rumours it had crashed.

Footage showed the passenger plane being towed alongside heavy traffic as pedestrians walked by. Videos also taken from the scene showed trucks towing away parts of the aircraft wings.

Some initial reports spread online claimed that the plane had crash-landed in the Ikeja-Agege area.

However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) spoke about the incident in a statement, confirming that the aircraft didn’t crash, but was rather delivered to a buyer.

The Authority also advised Nigerians to disregard the news, as it was false.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to inform the general public to disregard the news making the rounds on social media about an alleged crash at Ikeja Airport.

“The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer, who was taking it to its final destination”, it read.

Daniel Dikio an aviation analyst also shared his observation of the viral video.

He twitted:

“It is an Airbus A319, hasn’t flown domestically in years. I can see traces of a green logo, it likely belonged to First Nation Airways in its time.

“The wings are separated cleanly, this wouldn’t happen in a crash. The separation is a sign of dismantling.

“There is no damage to the fuselage, almost impossible given the purported circumstances.”
