UK Has Its Own Crime Issues – Pastor Adegboyega Replies Badenoch
Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, the embattled UK-based pastor, has responded to comments made by British Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch regarding Nigeria, pointing out that societal issues such as crime and police corruption are also rampant in the UK.
Adegboyega’s church, SPAC Nation, was recently shut down by the British government over allegations of mismanaging £1.87 million in funds.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in the wake of this, Badenoch criticized Nigeria’s police force, accusing them of robbing citizens they were meant to protect.
When asked by a British journalist if she trusted the UK police, she responded affirmatively, but shared a negative experience with the Nigeria Police, claiming they once stole her brother’s shoe and watch.
“The police in Nigeria will rob us,” Badenoch said, adding that “giving people a gun is just a license to intimidate.” She also contrasted her experience with the UK police, praising their helpfulness when her home was burgled in 2004.
However, in a response during Monday’s edition of Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today,’ Pastor Adegboyega disagreed with Badenoch’s assessment.
He pointed out that similar problems exist in the UK, citing that between 2023 and 2024 alone, around 78,000 bags and phones were snatched in the UK.
He also highlighted the struggles faced by the black community in the UK, noting that many, including the leaders of opposition parties, have fought for years to overcome systemic challenges.
Adegboyega emphasized that while Nigeria has its problems, it should not be solely defined by them. “We are not denying that our country has issues, but we cannot say things are all dark because it’s not true,” he said.
The pastor also pointed out the challenges facing young black people in the UK, with more of them being found in prisons and mental hospitals than in schools.
He highlighted the success of SPAC Nation, which has helped send people to prestigious institutions like Harvard, Cambridge, and Imperial College.
