Pastor Fatoyinbo Bows To Pressure, Announces Leave Of Absence
Facing pressure from within and outside Christendom, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) moments ago announced his decision to embark on a leave of absence as the church’s leader.
The embattled cleric has come under intense fire in the last few days, with millions focusing on him on social media after Mrs Busola Dakolo, wife of musician, Timi Dakolo, accused him of raping her about 20 years ago.
In a video interview with Chude Jideonwo of YNaija published on Friday, she alleged that Fatoyinbo raped her more than once, leading to widespread protests in Lagos and Abuja yesterday.
Via Instagram today, however, Fatoyinbo, whose wife had defended yesterday in church, announced his decision to step down.
“The past few days have been very sobering on me. I have taken time to seek spiritual counsel form Christian leaders around the world who feel very concerned about the ongoing report in the media.
“I have solicited their guidance on actions I should take that is honoring to our Lord Jesus Christ and the work he has called me to do.
“Drawing from their counsel and that of the leadership of COZA and owing to my love for Lord’s work and the sacred honor of my calling I have decided to take a leave of absence from the pulpit of the church.
“Although it would break my heart to tatters to stay a day without doing ministry I believe it is the right thing to do at this time. It is in the interest of the flock of Christ that issues concerning me do not become a distraction to their worship of their Lord,” Fatoyinbo said in the statement.
