The call was made at a Community Peace and Security meeting organised by the PCRC for stakeholders and held at the Thomas Ajegunle Playing Ground, Owode-Onirin, with the theme: “Learning to Live Together in Peace, Harmony and Diversity in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA”.

Adeniyi stated that the peace meeting was timely considering the spate of insecurity across the country as well as rising tension in some communities, adding that the gospel of peaceful coexistence and co-habiting in harmony must be preached at all times.

He said: “There’s a greater need to mutually respect each other’s culture, religion and values so that we can maximise our diversity. There is a need for communities and religious leaders to organise frequent meetings and advise youths to desist from stigmatising ethnic groups to forestall any future crisis”.

The Chairman also appealed to those who want to foment trouble in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA to desist as a combined team of security forces and community leaders are prepared to deal with such persons within the Law.

On his part, the Chairman Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, represented by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the LCDA, Mr. Tunde Idowu, commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Owode-Onirin Police Division and the Chairman PCRC for putting the security meeting together to quell the rumour of discord among the various ethnic groups in Agboyi-Ketu.

He noted that there is a need for tolerance among the people and advised Community Development Associations (CDAs) to replicate such meetings in their various communities to checkmate any misunderstanding, noting that peaceful coexistence among residents is a panacea for progress and development in the LCDA

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Owode-Onirin Police Station, SP Charles Sawyer, thanked the Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Chairman, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, the PCRC Chairman of Owode Onirin Police Division, Adebisi Adeniyi, and the entire PCRC members for the security initiative, adding that all hands must be on deck to curb insecurity across the State.
