PDP Alerts INEC Over BVAS Malfunction in Ondo Governorship Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over the malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) deployed for the Ondo State governorship election.
BVAS, an electronic device designed to verify Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters, reportedly failed to function at Unit 04, Ward 7, in Akoko West Local Government Area.
In a Saturday morning statement from the PDP Situation Room, the party urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the issue. “As of 8:45 am, elections have yet to commence in Unit 04, Ward 7, Akoko West due to a faulty BVAS machine. INEC, please intervene,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), successfully cast his vote at polling unit 6, Ward 4, in the Obenla community. The governor used a boat to reach his polling unit from the Ugbonla jetty.
Elsewhere, accreditation and voting commenced smoothly at Unit 46, Ward 4, Ijapo Estate, in Akure-South Local Government Area.
INEC had earlier assured Nigerians of a free and fair election. Professor Kunle Ajayi, INEC’s National Commissioner supervising Ondo, Ogun, and Osun States, reiterated the commission’s commitment during an interview on Friday.
