Eko Hot Blog reports that the recent verbal sparring between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State escalated when accusations of weapon stockpiling surfaced.
In a Sunday statement, Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, issued a strong caution to the opposing APC.
According to him, the APC was attempting to push the state back into the dark ages of political assassinations on mundane issues of political differences within the party.
Bisi expressed worry about a faction within the conflicting party gathering arms and bullets. He warned that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, representing the PDP, will not tolerate any disturbance of peace in the state through violent assassination attempts, irrespective of political allegiances.
The chairman underscored the significance of this caution, especially considering reported death threats and reactions from opposing APC factions within the state.
The ruling party urged security agencies to remain vigilant amidst allegations and counter-allegations of death threats involving opposition factions.
“We have always admired the peaceful disposition of the state leader, His Excellency, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. We share his view that meaningful development can never occur in an atmosphere of war and bloodshed.
He further said, “We appeal to both the aggressors and the bullied caucuses in the opposition fold to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign in the state. A situation where political actors in the APC threaten themselves openly and with reckless abandonment is unacceptable.”
Reports suggest that the opposition party didn’t take Bisi’s statement lightly, as the state APC accused him of misleading the public regarding the actual security status under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership.
