PDP Appoints Caretaker Committees For Edo Wards Ahead Of Primary Elections

Eko Hot Blog reports in preparation for its upcoming primary elections scheduled for February 22, 2024, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the formation of Caretaker Committees for the wards in Edo State.

EDITOR’S PICK:

The Committees are set to function for a duration of 30 days, starting from Thursday, February 1, 2024.

The decision to establish these committees was necessitated by the expiration of the tenure of the Edo State Ward Executive Committees on Thursday, as confirmed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

The PDP has opted for an indirect mode of primary, where delegates from each ward will cast their votes to determine the party’s candidate for the governorship poll slated for September 21.

Ologunagba clarified the purpose of appointing the Caretaker Committees, stating, “Consequently, the NWC has approved the appointment of the outgoing Edo State Ward Executive Committees to function as Ward Caretaker Committees for a period of 30 days so as to avoid any vacuum in this very important organ of the party in Edo State.”

He further emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the party during this crucial period.

“The NWC enjoins all party leaders, critical stakeholders, and members of the PDP in Edo State to be guided by this and continue to work together in the overall interest of the party in the state,” Ologunagba urged.

FUTHER READING:

As the PDP gears up for the primary elections, the establishment of Caretaker Committees aims to ensure a smooth transition and efficient organization within the party structure at the ward level.

The upcoming weeks will be critical for the PDP in Edo State as they navigate the selection process to field a candidate for the governorship election later in the year.
