The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to escalate, with growing tensions among party leaders and members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) over the leadership of acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

Damagum, who assumed leadership following Senator Iyorchia Ayu’s court removal, faces mounting opposition from various party factions, with critics calling for his resignation.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sources within the PDP revealed plans to replace certain BoT members who have openly criticized Damagum’s leadership. According to insiders, the faction supporting Damagum, led by allies such as former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba), has infiltrated nearly all party organs, aiming to consolidate control.

“The BoT is the only organ left critical of their moves,” a source noted, adding that efforts are underway to dominate the BoT with loyalists.

The National Working Committee (NWC) has scheduled a meeting today to discuss critical issues, including the suspension of the Cross River State Chairman. A senior NWC member confirmed the agenda, stating that the meeting is part of routine end-of-year discussions.

Despite demands for an immediate National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to address the party’s challenges, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, reassured members that the NEC meeting is set for February 2025.

Osadolor emphasized the logistical constraints of convening NEC in December and reiterated that the February date is “set in stone.” He also urged the NWC to issue a statement expressing solidarity with Nigerians amid the prevailing economic hardships, highlighting the importance of engaging citizens during these trying times.

Efforts to contact Damagum and the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, for comments were unsuccessful. However, the PDP leadership remains under pressure to resolve its internal crisis and ensure party unity ahead of critical political milestones.
