The Peoples Democratic Party PDP factions in Plateau state have expressed different views to the planned support for the party’s candidates in the gubernatorial election slated for November 16, in Kogi and Bayelsa state.
It was gathered that there are two factions in the state, one faction of the party led by the National Vice- Chairman, North-Central, Mr Theophilus Dakas-Shan and another faction led by the suspended state’s chairman Damishi Sango.
The two factions disclosed their different view to the planned support for the PDP in Kogi and Bayelsa on Monday.
It was gathered that Sango, who has continued to lay claim to the chairmanship of the party despite his suspension by the state executive council, had sent messages calling for a meeting of party stakeholders.
It was also gathered that the meeting was scheduled to hold on Tuesday in Jos with the sole purpose of mobilizing support for the PDP in Kogi and Bayelsa state ahead of the November 16 election.
Meanwhile, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr John Akans, in a statement on Monday asked party members to disregard the meeting called by Sango. Adding that, Sango remained suspended.
He said ” Sango remains suspended as state chairman of the party having been rejected and a vote of no confidence passed on him.”
Sango in his reactions insisted that he was still the state chairman recognized by the NWC of the party adding that, he was acting on the instruction of the party’s National Working Council.
He said “I received a letter from the national secretariat of the party to organise party members in the state on how to galvanise support for our party’s governorship candidates in Bayelsa and Kogi states.
“The letter was not addressed to the state publicity secretary because he is not the party chairman.
“So, he cannot do anything to stop the meeting because I am still the state party chairman.”
