PDP Hails Sacking of Anyanwu, Pushes for North Central Nominee as Chairman
EKO HOT BLOG reports that in response to the ruling, the PDP’s Rivers State chapter, led by Edwin Woko, described the decision as a conclusion to Anyanwu’s “political gambling” within the party.
The Woko-led executives also aligned with the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and other party leaders, urging members in the North Central zone to promptly nominate a candidate of high integrity to succeed Iyorchia Ayu as the party’s National Chairman.
Woko further called on PDP members nationwide to support efforts by the BoT Chairman and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) to restore the party’s strength as a vibrant opposition, particularly during a period of widespread hardship under the APC-led Federal Government.
He stated, “We vividly recall that one of the key resolutions from the PDP Board of Trustees meeting held on December 5, 2024, was the directive for members from the North Central zone of our great party to swiftly select a replacement for Iyorchia Ayu in line with Section 47(6) of our party’s constitution.”
This development comes amid ongoing leadership challenges within the PDP, including the recent appointment of Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as acting National Chairman by a faction of the party.
The PDP’s call for a new National Chairman aims to strengthen the party’s leadership and enhance its role as a formidable opposition force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
